Mission: Down the Rabbit Hole
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: MD 1: 1500

S'vona looked over the PADD on her desk as she sipped her green tea. More and more crew were getting finalized for their mission departure in seven days. She was pleased with their progress. Only a couple from the shakedown cruise decided to gather their things and return back to the ship yards. It had been a long trip, but it was enough that she had been able to requisition new officers and units to the ship while en route. The door chimed. "Come," she called without looking up.

As the door slid open a tall, well built man walked into the room, and his voice rang out with a baritone timbre. "Lt. Col. Aurelius Pio reporting as ordered." As he held his transfer papers forward the matte black of his synthetic skin shone under the light.

"Ah, Lieutenant Colonel, I'm glad you were able to get here in time. I wasn't expecting your contingent until tomorrow." S'vona took the orders that he offered her and quickly skimmed through them. "I was pleased to find that your unit was up for reassignment. Your track record is quite impressive."

His face remained expressionless as the reply issued from his lips, "we are more efficient than other units that have served under you. I look forward to showing you the difference between what you are used to and us." Removing a PADD from his pack he handed it over as well. "I took the liberty of adjusting security patrols and plugging a few holes as you human and Vulcans like to say."

The Vulcan quirked an eyebrow and looked it over. "I will make sure to run this by our new Executive Officer tomorrow. Surface wise, the changes are acceptable. The Andromeda was not originally designed for a marine contingent. I determined it necessary that we have one aboard prior to our departure once I got our orders handed down. Please see the Chief Engineer. She is handling carving a niche out for you and your crew. Until then, your crew will be assigned to guest quarters on Deck two and three. Any needs your marines may have, bring them to her attention now."

As the Chief Engineer was mentioned a barely perceptible twitch happened within his brow. "Is it not unusual for the Chief Engineer to be handling a job such as that?" He slung his kit over his shoulder and they way it spun around gave the feeling it was much heavier than it looked. "Regardless we are used to surviving wherever we are sent, we require no special items or treatment for our unit. We are quite self sufficient." As he raised himself to full height and stood at attention a soft rip could be heard. "Though we will undoubtedly be wearing our tactical uniforms instead of the standard Starfleet ones."

"Under normal circumstances, it would be a joint effort between Operations and Engineering. However, the Lieutenant Commander has proven herself resourceful and she is currently doing double duty until an Operations Officer is assigned. You are no doubt familiar with her, a Lieutenant Commander Adlyn Rowley."

A frustrated sigh quietly escaped from him as he nodded his head. "I know of her," he replied with as much ennui as one could possibly muster. "Permission to begin seeing to my men?" he asked as he tightened his grip on his kit. His mind was already racing with what he needed to do and how he could improve what was already in place. Although one small thought fought to stay afloat in the riptides of his mind, and he was trying to keep it submerged.

"Permission granted. Welcome aboard, Lieutenant Colonel. I look forward to getting to know you and your men. Dismissed." The Vulcan went back to her reports as the man walked out of her office.

As the footsteps from his boots echoed along the corridor he was not looking forward to talking to the Chief Engineer. All he could do was rely on his service duty while in the Federation to allay some of the concerns he was sure she'd have with him.
