Reunions
Time: 22 hours later

Adlyn slowly woke up to the aching pain first. Her long hair was everywhere and she knew she needed a real shower. Her chronometer showed her the time and she swore under breath, "takia…" It was now the longest she had been out post a mission. Her head hurt from being out so long. As she opened her eyes, she saw her left bruised arm was hanging off of the bed and was stiff. The implants started coming back online as she pushed herself up from laying on her belly. She felt hungover and like she had been pinned under a stanchion. The lights were low and she looked over and saw Logan there. "Like I said… getting harder and harder." She ran her fingers through her hair getting it out of her face as he looked up. She looked down at her arms and shoulders and saw the blue spiraling bruises that really showed up. "And a blueberry…" she laughed lightly. She stood slowly and went to the replicator and ordered a glass of brown looking muck and downed it whole and ordered a second one to slowly drink. "What'd I miss?" She asked as she sat down on the edge of the bed drinking her goop.
Logan scrolled the PADD in his hand to the top of the screen. "Apparently, we're famous," he handed to her. "Or should I say the rival gang they are blaming for the attack is infamous. They haven't identified anyone by name, but I think it's safe to say they won't be tracing it back to us. Too bad. It would have been a nice way to end your spy career."
"What better way to end a spy career than disappearing back into the fold?" She asked laughing. "Hopefully it stays at that and they are none the wiser." She had a bit more of the drink. "Seems for the best. At least I didn't break anything this time. Considering how long I was out for, plus how bad the bruising is this time… I think it is probably for the best." Then she finished her drink. "So what, two to three days out?" she asked.
"Little over two," he replied as he started to message her good shoulder. "We got a little bit of a current that helped push our speed for a while." There was trepidation in his voice.
She hung her head as he started to rub out her one shoulder. "You mentioned it would be dangerous to see your sister. Would you like to meet her at a nondescript place and see her and she goes back to living a new life set up by Bernard, or do you want to see her at HQ?" She asked. She wasn't sure how he wanted to do it. It had been nearly twenty five years since she had seen her own.
"Definitely not HQ," he replied immediately. "Very few know she even exists. Brakka might be gone but I've probably pissed off a lot of people over the years. The less she's exposed to me, the better." He paused. "It's just been so long since I've seen her. I mean, I keep tabs but… She was eighteen. Just met this guy she really liked. I had to check him out of course. He seemed like a good guy. Didn't work out," he shrugged. "Since then? I'm sure a lot has changed. Both me and her. She won't even recognize me. I've changed my face twice since then."
She sent a transmission and changed course while he continued rubbing her shoulder out. "Well, in thirteen hours you'll get to see her again. We had a couple different options as we didn't know what you wanted to do and if we would survive. So you have thirteen hours to change your mind."
Logan jolted up at the sudden coarse correction. "Where are we meeting her?" he wanted to know. Suddenly two days of thinking this through has been cut to just over half of one.
"A small moon that's uninhabited. During the day it's nice. During the night it's far from it. Does it really matter where it is?" She asked.
He started to pace nervously. "No… no, of course not." As long as it was some place remote and quiet, it was fine. So why was he so anxious about it? Why wasn't he happy about this family reunion? "Maybe you should just go. By yourself. I mean, she wouldn't even know it's me anyway."
She watched him pace back and forth. "You know, if I was in your shoes I would be anxious too. This is why those of us without families make the best soldiers and spies. It's hard being able to shut this life off long enough to entertain a real life." She gripped the edge of the bed, bruises had formed on her knuckles. "And of course she will know it's you. You can change your face and your voice but deep down, family knows family. I would probably scare her in the condition I am currently in and I'm going to get worse before I get better," she finally admitted. It was hard for her to admit weakness but the bruising was a side effect. The dermal regenerator would only do so much for her with how much damage she had.
"Do we need to get your somewhere?" he asked. He was worried for her to get better but there was added incentive to avoid the whole situation with Kaitlyn and the awkwardness and anxiousness of the situation.
"No. I just need time. The bruising will continue to spread. It goes with the whole I shutdown thing." She smiled weakly. "My implants are normally passive except when I mess with systems remotely. That requires power. I can either let the systems charge by sleeping it off, or by a power transfer. That proper technology and ability is lost to the wasteland of my world. I can make due and my body can quasi convert phaser shots, but it comes with a price. The passive implants drain, my reserves drain faster, any contusion gets worse, and I take longer to recover. My world has higher gravity; thus my agility. Lower gravity environments allows contusions to spread wider than what they really are. Things also have been a bit wonky since I got poisoned on a mission a year ago."
Logan just nodded. He heard everything she said but only about half of it registered. He moved to check their coarse. "I mean, better safe than sorry, right? There's a medical facility only about a day out of our way," he rambled. He paused. "It's silly that I'm this nervous."
"They aren't equipped to handle it. The amount of contusions I have, I just have to heal on my own. Only place that can handle is my homeworld and by the time we make it there, I'll be healed." She got up and placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's okay to be nervous. Just six months ago you went on a mission that nearly killed the both of you. You haven't seen her in a long time. If it's too much too soon, I can correct our course and stave them off," she offered.
He sighed. "No, it's fine. Might as well rip the bandaid off. But unless you want to be stir crazy for the next thirteen hours, I need a distraction. So, what do you got?"
She moved her hand from his shoulder to his hand. "Well, I need a proper shower. I don't know if you have had one or not while I was out. I could probably eat. We got reports we have to do. Or…" she left off trailing her thoughts to see what else he might suggest. Then she realized she really didn't know what would do best by him. "What would work best for you?"
As much as he was keen on his usual distraction, that wouldn't last for thirteen hours. Neither of them had that endurance. They needed something more… practical. He snapped his fingers as he came up with it. He replicated two bottles of whiskey, the real kind, thanks to Klingon replicators. He grabbed both and turned to Adlyn. "We… are gonna play some drinking games. First one to pass out is at the winner's mercy."
"Deal."
