Mission: Down the Rabbit Hole

Timeline: MD: 07

Time: 1245

Logan managed to grab a quick bite before he was summoned to the bridge.

It was time.

He stepped off the turoblift and exchanged a quick head nod with the tactical and flight officer. Captain S'vona stood as he approached from her left to take up his station. It wasn't his first launch from space dock but it was the first time he'd launched a brand new ship. "Still has the new car smell, doesn't it?"

S'vona raised her eyebrow like all Vulcans do when anyone, humans especially, use some idiom they didn't understand.

"An old earth saying. A new vehicle, it smells of fresh leather, new plastics and wasn't broken in yet," he smiled at her.

"I don't smell anything different than any other ship, Commander," she replied candidly.

"Are you sure? I can smell the brand new chair from here," he smirked.

S'vona just gave him that look. There were more important things than to talk about smells that may or may not be real. "If you wouldn't mind, Commander, we have a schedule to keep."

"Of course, Captain," he smiled wider. "Mr. Jenson," he prompted the conn.

"Yes, Commander?"

"Contact Starbase 117. Request they release the docking clamps and permission to depart."

"Aye, sir!"

Logan remained standing while Jenson made the necessary communications. He had a few goosebumps. This would be the first time he'd actually been this far out. Not many ships went between the galactic arms. There was just not much to see. The fact they have found this artifact at all was pure coincidence. To this point, they hadn't even been able to get it powered up. The hope that was by the time they arrived, the science teams would have it figured out and they could see where it took them.

"Commander, Starbase 117 has released clamps and given us permission to depart."

"Thank you, Lieutenant. Ease us out gently. One-quarter impulse."

"Aye, sir. One-quarter impulse."

"On screen," Logan requested. The image of the ship moving past the docking ring and into open space was always something he enjoyed. It only took a couple of minutes and yet it still good. "Come about to one two zero, mark two."

"Coming about to one two zero, mark two. Aye, sir."

Logan finally sat down at his station. "Set course for the artifact, Lieutenant. Warp factor six."

"Course laid in, warp factor six. Aye."

"Would you like to do the honors, Captain?" Logan asked her.

"I see no reason to steal this moment that you so clearly enjoy, Commander."

Logan chuckled slightly. "Lt. Jenson,Engage."
