Adlyn walked up to the XO’s ready room door and pressed the chime. She really hadn’t seen him for the past couple of days. That was on her part to try to make this more professional, especially since he had been promoted to be her boss. There had been so much to do before they could leave port in two days that she had kept herself quite busy and distracted from thinking about it too much. Now that she was here though, her mind started playing those tricks on her again. When the call was answered, she entered his office. “Commander, I come with good news: your Executive Quarters are now family style.”
Logan looked up from the personnel files and smiled. "Commander," he greeted her. He used her rank instead of her name to give her the more professional atmosphere she wanted. It was odd. He was used to being far less formal and more open but he wanted to be respectful of her wishes.
"That's good to hear. I'm sure Amanda will be grateful for her own space." His daughter hadn't really minded the smaller space. Still, he was sure if things had continued as they were, both would eventually grow tired of the arrangement. "We can move in immediately?"
“Yes after you do a walk through to make sure that it is acceptable. We had to knock out the bulkhead wall and expand the quarters. We did have to also take two feet off of the one side to make the room fit between the adjoining quarters. If you had been used to a single Executive space you would notice the difference. It’s seamless craftsmanship, thus why it took a bit longer,” she mentioned. “If you’re free, I can show you the new quarters now?”
"I think Amanda will want to see them too," he replied and tapped his comm badge. "Vance to Amanda."
"Yes, father?"
"Lt. Commander Rowley says our new quarters are ready. Can you meet us there?"
"Of course," she replied.
"We're on our way," he said as he ended the conversation. "Shall we?"
She turned and showed him his door. “Let’s.” As they made their way to the turbolift, she asked, “finding the Andromeda and her crew up to snuff?” The turbolift doors opened and they walked in and she keyed in Deck 2.
"So far," he nodded. "Although I did make a few last minute additions to the roster," he continued.
“Are they going to be able to get here before we leave in two days?” she asked curious who he would have requested as additions to the roster. The turbolift opened the doors again and they were on Deck 2. At the end of the small hallway, she showed him his quarters. “Nice and close to the Bridge in case of emergency. Do you want to wait to see it before Amanda gets here, or wait until she’s here? It’s not like many are aboard still, so she should be along fairly quick.”
"They're already on route. They'll be here in time," he assured her.
"I'm here," Amanda announced, seemingly coming out of nowhere.
"Very good. You almost surprised me that time. And I think you might have caught Commander Rowley off guard," he praised her.
“Not quite,” she smiled lightly. She pressed the door keypad and walked into the room. “Computer, lights,” she called out. The room was spacious with a large desk area, almost room for a second office, a sitting area, a large six person dining table greeted them. The walls between the two bedrooms, one on each side, had recessed bookshelves. “You’ll have the option for water or sonic in your bathroom, Commander,” she said pointing to the far side of the quarters. “And you’ll have a sonic shower in yours,” she said pointing towards the door near the office side of the quarters to their left. It had been hard to make a second bathroom but because how the ship was laid out, she was able to make a long skinny one at the end of the bedroom instead of next to the bedroom like the Commander’s side.
"This… is… huge…" Logan said with wide eyes. He hadn't expected it to be this big. It was far bigger than anything he'd had on earth. Even on assignments, most of the time it was cramped and menial quarters. Nothing like this.
"It'll be sufficient," Amanda announced as she entered and looked around. "After all, my father is the Executive Officer, so he should be respected as such."
"Amanda…" he chided. She shrugged him off. "It's more than sufficient. I don't know what we'll do with all the space."
“Plenty of time to figure it out in,” Adlyn smiled. “Thank you for being patient while we built your room and bathroom, Amanda. Welcome home!”
She nodded at Adlyn and then turned to Logan before extending her hand. Logan sighed and shook his head. "Computer, tricorder," he requested. One was replicated. He handed it to his daughter who proceeded to scan the room.
“Well, I’ll leave you two to it. I can have a couple operations guys help you move your stuff from your old quarters to your new quarters, if you like. Otherwise, just let me know when you’re out of your temporary so I can get those assigned to someone else as required. Do you need anything else from me?” Adlyn asked as she watched Amanda scanning every surface and bulkhead.
Logan motioned back to the living room silently and started that way. When she followed him, he made sure they were out of earshot of Amanda. "There is one more thing, if you can arrange it. One of the people I had transferred over to the Andromeda is a fresh cadet by the name of Kit Kasey. I pulled some strings to get her here on her cruise. It's… a bit of a long story, but she'll be bringing along her younger brother and sister. I was hoping something could be arranged close to my quarters. So I can help keep an eye on them."
“Deck D would be the closest. Since she has family with her, then I could see about one of the Junior Officer’s Quarters that’s got three small, separate sleeping areas instead of the Enlisted Personnel Quarters that Cadet’s usually inhabit. This way, they actually will have some space.” Adlyn offered him the PADD she had been carrying. “This is to accept the work we did for your quarters. I should have her quarters ready by oh nine hundred tomorrow. Anything else?” she asked.
He took the PADD and signed off on the space. "No, I think that's it. Just let me know where she'll be so I can make arrangements when she comes aboard. And, thank you, Adlyn." He hoped he didn't mind the use of her first name in this situation.
“You’re welcome. I’ll send copy you on the requisition tomorrow morning. Have a good evening.” She then turned to leave. “You’re not going to find anything,” Adlyn noted to Amanda as she was still scanning everything.
